Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on February 2, 1977. Shakira is a Colombian singer who has been a well known figure in the pop music world of Latin America since the mid-1990s. Shakira revealed many of her talents in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability with rock and roll, Latin and Arabic influences with her own original twist on belly dancing. She is a native Spanish speaker and also speaks fluent English and Portuguese as well as some Italian, French and Arabic.
Besides being a singer she is also a Songwriter, record producer, instrumentalist, a great dancer and an occasional actress. Winner of several awards and accolades, Shakira made her mark in the world of English music in 2001 with the release of Laundry Service.
Some of the awards won by Shakira for her musical talents include 2 Grammy Awards and 8 Latin Grammy Awards. Like her songs, her music videos are also a treat to the eyes and almost every teenager in the US and Latin America want to shake like Shakira.
